where am i?
”18 years,” I thought.
And out of the blue, my body checked every drawer, every cupboard, every folder, looking for bits and pieces.
Fragments of the past. The past of a kid who dreamed and yearned for tomorrow. A kid who wanted to grow a beard and climb the highest peaks of the Earth.
Now, he’s malnourished. Exhausted, he thought deeply about what could have been. It felt like lying headfirst into a river, somewhat. A couple of nudges here and there from small waves, but mostly quiet. Awfully quiet.
Then came the eighteenth year, he got up and wiped his eyes. He checked the time, and from then on checked it every second, like a tense part of a tv show.
He squinted his eyes to find himself on a plastic desk, filled to the brim with folders upon folders. Heart pounding, he got up, hoping to find something.
He got to the front door, and found it to be blocked with even more folders and paperwork, leaving only its window to be seen. He climbed up, and peeked through.
The skies were the bluest blue, and the sun was warm enough to sneak a hug through. It’s been a while.
I folder wobbled till my eventual fall. The phone rang upstairs, I have to get it.
Oh.
I never really asked about it, but where exactly am I?
And before I knew it, I was back in the river, hopefully receiving a response soon. I hope.
